Excess sweating

This is called Hyperhidrosis and usually effects the palms of the hands, the armpits and sometimes the face. It can also affect other parts of the body and the feet.

If the problem effects only the armpits then Botox injections can be administered, which blocks the sweat glands under the armpits and prevent the excess sweating.

If the hands and face are also involved then the best procedure is a transthorocic sympathectomy. This is keyhole surgery in which a small telescope is passed between the ribs through a 1 centimetre incision in the chest wall. Via a camera on the end of the telescope the nerves supplying the sweat glands can be identified and neutralised so stopping the excess sweating.
